Trip to the Giants Causeway

We went to a Giants causeway day tour with Allen's Tours with my friend Viivi.

The tour started off in the morning and we started heading North with a minibus. The first stop was at the Carrickfergus Castle. I've made a blog post about the castle before, so I'm not gonna get deep into it. You can see more photos from the castle in my previous post: Click here!

After the stop in Carrickfergus we started heading up the breathtaking Antrim Coastal road which in itself is absolutely stunning. The coast and it's steep cliffs diving to the sea are definitely worth seeing. En route we could also marvel the views of the Glens of Antrim and cute little town and villages we passed through.

The next stop was the Carrick A Rede and it's rope bridge. There we had stunning views over to Rathlin Island and the gorgeous coast.

After the robe bridge we were on our way again. We had a quick photo stop at the quite impressive ruins of the historical Dunluce Castle. Fun fact time! Dunluce Castle is regarded as the possible inspiration for Cair Paravel in C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia.

After the photo stop we had lunch and visited the world renowed Bushmills Distillery you could have a wee taste of the world famous whiskey in their tasting room. We didn't. We don't like whiskey.

Then it was time for the highlight of the day - The Giants Causeway. It is a World Heritage Site and quite a geological phenomenon. It basically is an area of unexplainable hexagonal shaped stones (which are estimated to be 62-65 million years old!). We got so lucky with the weather! Blue sky! In Ireland! But as the old saying says: "A picture is worth a thousand of my blabberings, let's get to the photos already".

The Champions of the World!

That was the end of the tour, and it was time to head back to Belfast. The next day it was time for my friend to go back home to Finland. It was so great to have her over!! xx
